Description
Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes aquired Azamor estate in 1998. the estate is locate in south Portugal, the Alentejo wines has become one the most red region for red wines in Portugal. Alentejo presents great characteristics for production of high quality red wines, long sunshine hours, clay soils with bedrock of schist, which enable the red grapes to ripe fully and develop all necessary compound phenolics to make great wines.
Alentejo produces fantastic quality fruit forwards wines at great value. Its climate hepls to constant production of good quality. Azamor’s vineyards are planted on low vigour hillside sites, which gives their wines more depth of flavour.
A mixture of local varieties like Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet, as well as international ones such as Petit Verdot, Syrah and Merlot are used in the production of this fantastic wine.
All grape varieties for these wines were fermented in separate stainless steel tanks for up to 10 days at temperatures between 22-24ºC. The grapes undergo cold maceration before fermentation to better extraction of tannins and aromatics compounds. After the must being pressed off the skins it undergo malolactic fermentation. Then aged for seven months in three and four-year-old French and American oak barrels. It was then blended before ageing a further seven months prior to bottling.
The Azamor has a total of 27 hectares of vineyards, planted 350 metres above sea level. Magnificent landscape views including a breathtaking view of Spain.
This wine is Beautifully aromatic with a lush, deep red fruit perfume. On the palate, the wine is well rounded with sumptuous soft fruit flavours. The finish is long, with ripe tannins.
