Producer Profile
The Azevedo, Vinho Verde estate was acquired by Fernando Guedes 1982, He put a substantial amount of work in transforming the estate with aim to produce quality Vinho Verde with unique characteristics.
35 hectares were planted with utilising the cordon-trained vineyards method, unlike the traditional high-trained pergolas.
The winery has gone through a modernization process, culminating in a modern and environmental friendly for the production of fresh and elegant wines . they have set the bar high with the end goal of creating top quality wines. Their winemaking approach is to maintain a continuous improvement in terms of innovations and techniques for production of consistent great quality wines. All wines are aimed to be of a great quality, fresh well balanced and integration with pure and precise flavours.
Viticulture
In order to maximise and further improve the sun exposure and aeration of the vines simultaneously preventing disease and add extra sunshine exposure for the grapes. In return the grapes achieve a full ripeness and healthier grapes at the point of harvest, in which a good level of pH, acidity and compound phenolics have developed in a balanced way to produce this quality Vinho verde.
Winemaking
The grapes are carefully selected and undergo a gentle destemming. Inert gas was to prevent oxidation during the crushing and pressing. The wine is then fermented in a stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature between 16 – 18ºC . After the fermentation process, the wine was kept in stainless steel tanks constantly monitored and stirring of the lees, for further 3 months.
A great level of attention to detail is fundamental for producing wines with characteristics with pure and particular flavours.
