Description
Chianti Classico, Terre di Cresci, Poggiotondo, Italy comes from Poggiotondo estate In the northwest hills of Empoli in western Tuscany. the viniyeard are planted on the south southwest facing of the hills of Empoli. The vines are predominately of Sangiovese variety.
Since 2014 the Poggiotondo estate has been certified organic. Alberto Antonini’s aim is to make wines showcase the region and precisely the specific vineyards, and make the best example of a wine from the Chianti region. Quality and sustainability are fundamental for Alberto Antonini
The Chianti Classico, Terre di Cresci grapes are sourced from seven hectares of vineyard planted 350-450 metres above sea level, in the Chianti Classico appellation.
The soils in Montefioralle between Greve and Badia a Passignano are composed of calcareous marl – this is the typical “Alberese”.
The vines are on average of 35 years old, ranging from 20 to 70 years. The vines are both Guyot and spur pruned cordon systems trained, to maximise and further improve the sun exposure and simultaneously preventing disease alongside the perfect temperatures allow the growth of great quality grapes which flourished in the following dry, sunny and hot days alternating with cool nights. This enable the grapes to achieve a full ripeness and. The vineyards have approximately five thousands vines per hectare.
Handpicked harvest was carried out to ensure the freshness of the grapes are maintained. At the winery, the grapes were destemmed and undergo a gently crushed. A great level of attention to detail is fundamental for producing wines with characteristics with pure and particular flavours, consistent monitoring is carried out. After two weeks the must is pressed and racked into large untoasted casks to undergo malolactic fermentation. subsequently the wine was matured for eighteen months in large untoasted oak casks, to ensure the natural quality, the fruit aromas of the grapes are preserved, which clearly noticeable on this wine.
