Along the hills of Gavi, Produttori del Gavi overlooks the historic Gavi fortress and have been making wine for over 65 years.

Produttori del Gavi lie within the Province of Alessandria, a territory that is uniquely characterised by poor calcareous white soils; ideal for growing the native Cortese grape. With a golden berry, perfumed by the brackish wind delivered from the sea, these wines are superbly lean and with great finesse. Today, its members are led by oenologist Andrea Pancotti.

Gavi is one of Piedmont’s most prestigious white wines is grown in Piedmont’s southeast corner, just north of the border with Liguria, specifically in a hilly area around the town of Gavi, which includes 10 municipalities in the province of Alessandria.

The Cortese grape is known for its natural, high acidity, which gives the wine the familiar sharp dryness and fresh, flint-like flavor and bitterness that makes it so perfect for fish dishes. The grape is called coincidentally Cortese (100%), or locally Courteis, as rarely seen on the label.

The grapes are handpicked, To maintain the quality of the grapes, as soon it is harvested it is taken to the cellar to be processed. The grapes are carefully selected and goes through a  destalking and soft pressing process at controlled temperature to maintain the aromatic characters. The wine is then fermented in a stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature. A temperature controlled vinification is kept at 12 degrees C for 20 days. Refined on the lees for 3 months in stainless steel and refined in the bottle for a month.

Il Forte, Gavi DOCG, Piedmont, Italy wine, can be served as an aperitif, recommended with light first courses, fish dishes, fresh cheeses and slightly spicy.
