Manos Negras, Torrontes, Salta, Argentina, This fantastic, floral, subtle Torrontes is a classic grape variety from Argentina which flourish beautifully at altitude in Salta.
This is a classic Argentine Torrontés, with intense notes of orange blossom. Well balanced citrus fruit flavours followed by a crisp and clean finish.
Argentina’s most knowledgeable viticulturist Alejandro Sejanovich, leading Bodega Catena Zapata for the last 20 years, expert in high altitude vineyard planting. Salta vineyards are around 3000 metres above sea level, this are one the highest vineyards above the seal in the world. Average vineyard heights are around 1800 metres.
Manos Negras key focus is developing a sustainable latitude winemaking, by planting old Malbec vines in the cherished Altamira appellation in the Uco Valley, and region such stretches of Cafayate in Salta and Neuquen in Patagonia.
This Torrontes grapes comes from the high altitude of the northern stretches of Cafayate is one of Salta’s best known sub-regions. This region produces one of the finest Torrents wines.
The snowmelt from the Andes is used for irrigation water, play a significant importance in the Salta to sustain the agriculture and wine industry, in these region with near desert conditions.
This rigion has been a wine scene since the 1920s. However it was deemed not viable, because it was far away from Mendoza were the production facilities is located and consumers. Hence Salta grapes rarely featured on labels, as it was only used as partner grapes in the wine making to add colour and acidity.
It was in the 1970s When the Argentine government offered an incentive to plant vines in hotter East Mendoza, Uco Valley. However by the mid-1990s, the vineyards area decreased from 18,000ha at its peak point to 6,000ha, vineyards were replaced by tomatoes farming.
Salta has flourished in the last twenty years to be become one of the most vibrant wine region in Argentina, producing high quality wines. Salta region is now producing Argentina’s best Torrentes wine in Argentina.
The region’s soils, sun exposure intensity, and cold nights, allow the vines to produce grapes with intense fruit aromas and the vines develop well balanced natural acidity and lower pHs. Giving the wines the right conditions to age. The Malbec wines from the region high altitude, at their best, display intense colour and aromas, fresh acidity, red fruits and velvet tannins and fantastic structure.
Manos Negras, Torrontes, Salta, Argentina, grapes are carefully selected and undergo a gentle pressing to maintain the aromatic characters. The wine is then fermented in a stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature using wild yeast strains are used for fermentation.
