Pinot Noir, Argiles Rouges, Domaine Muré, Alsace is beautifully ruby in colour, with aromas of red fruit, spice and minerals has a great ageing potential.
Alsace region is situated in the northeast of France, Alsace is one of the world most exciting wine which is very underrated. Alsace wines are predominantly white however there some outstanding red wine form the region namely pinot noir.
Although Alsace is part of France, unlike other parts of country where wines take their name from their regions of production, Alsace labelling is straight forward, its wines are labelled by grape variety, and to simplify things further there are only 3 appellation in Alsace, the wines are classified either as AC Vin d’Alsace, Alsace grand cru, and the sparkling wines, are classifed as AC Crémant d’Alsace.
Alsace is something of a hidden treasure, known for its very aromatic, floral and spicy white wines – and it’s white wines that make up over 90% of the region’s production.
The Muré estate was founded in 1650 by Michel Muré. Te estate is located in the South of Alsace. The Rouffach vineyards goes far back to the Roman times.
The two highest peaks in the Vosges known by the Grand and the Petit Ballon, helps to protect the vineyards from rain-bearing west winds, which creates a perfect condition to grow quality grapes in the region. the vineyards benefit from long hours of sun exposure and mostly dry climate. This enable the grapes to achieve a full ripeness and develop complex characteristics.
The soils in the vineyards consist of clay-limestone soils and calcareous sandstone subsoil.
For the family Muré, quality and sustainability are paramount. The family estate have been farmed organically, utilising methods and techniques such, well aerated soils, as well as to increased flora and fauna which encourages the vines to grow healthy enhancing the biological activities in the soil.
In return the grapes develop unique characteristics of the terroir and contribute to the expressive minerality of the wines.
Biodynamic techniques are applied throughout the vineyards, and chemical or synthetic products are used in vineyards. contributes to healthy, nd the general well-being of the vines, resulting in the remarkable harmony which characterises the wines of Clos Saint Landelin.
In 1999 the estate’s 28 hectares (70 acres) have been certified for biodynamic (Demeter) and organic (Ecocert) wine making.
Handpicked harvest was carried out to ensure the freshness of the grapes are maintained. At the winery, the grapes were destemmed and undergo a gently crushed. A great level of attention to detail is fundamental for producing wines with characteristics with pure and particular flavours, consistent monitoring is carried out.
