Description
Saint-Amour, Domaine des Billards estate is located in the north side of Beaujolais Cru, is one of the small region in Beaujolais, Chenas being the smallest one, in terms of proportion of vineyards planted area. In Saint-Amour is predominantly planted with Gamey varietal, the majority of the vineyards are planted on the south and east facing hillsides on the banks of Saone river. The aspect of the vineyards are very important as it maximize sun exposure which ensure the grapes ripe fully and develop complex flavours. Saint-Amour is sheltered by the hills which protect the vineyards from heavy weather. due to dry and long hours of sun exposure the harvest is normally earlier in comparison to the vineyards planted in the south of Beaujolais, which are normally flat. Gamay is certainly the predominant grape variety in Saint-Amour however there are other grapes such chardonnay Chardonnay and Aligoté are also planted in the region in large proportion. However, these cannot be called Saint-Amour, they are normally labelled under as Beaujolais Blanc. As Mâconnais region slightly overlaps with that of Saint-Amour. occasionally Chardonnay and Aligoté are labelled under Saint-Véran appellation. Saint-Amour wines is very delicate and light comparing to others Beaujolais crus. Saint-Amour, Domaine des Billards is one of the best examples, it is velvety and harmoniously balanced, followed by a well balanced acidity, soft tannins, with classic mineral expression. Saint-Amour, Domaine des Billards is best served slightly chilled. This wine is great on its own, characeristics of Beaujolais easy drinking wines. Also this wine is very versatile when it comes to pairing food. This Saint-Amour would a match made heaven with patés, terrines, Brie and Camembert, roasted poultry . It would also go very well with sushi, mild curries and Thai green Handpicked harvest was carried out to ensure the freshness of the grapes are maintained.
