Description
Georges Descombes, Saint Amour, Beaujolais, shows beautiful aromatics of ripe black raspberry, black cherry and plum with rose and violet and hints of citrus. The palate is supple and sappy with earthy black raspberry and red currant fruit, with a lovely texture and firm saline acidity and stone flavors in the finish. While the wine is quite delicious now, two to five years of aging will bring a softer and more complex expression. George descombes took over the family business in 1988, Georges always recognised the importance of looking aftr the environment in order to produce quality wines. He transformed the vineyards and apply organic methods direction on its entire fifteen hectares. Grapes are hand-picked and fermented with natural yeasts in a cold semi-carbonic maceration in line Beaujolais traditions. low intervention, low sulphur practise are used throughout the wine making process.. Saint-Amour is located in the north side of Beaujolais Cru, is one of the small region in Beaujolais, Chenas being the smallest one, in terms of proportion of vineyards planted area. In Saint-Amour is predominantly planted with Gamey varietal, the majority of the vineyards are planted on the south and east facing hillsides on the banks of Saone river. The aspect of the vineyards are very important as it maximize sun exposure which ensure the grapes ripe fully and develop complex flavours. Saint-Amour is sheltered by the hills which protect the vineyards from heavy weather. due to dry and long hours of sun exposure the harvest is normally earlier in comparison to the vineyards planted in the south of Beaujolais, which are normally flat. Gamay is certainly the predominant grape variety in Saint-Amour however there are other grapes such chardonnay Chardonnay and Aligoté are also planted in the region in large proportion. However, these cannot be called Saint-Amour, they are normally labelled under as Beaujolais Blanc. As Mâconnais region slightly overlaps with that of Saint-Amour. occasionally Chardonnay and Aligoté are labelled under Saint-Véran appellation. Saint-Amour wines is very delicate and light comparing to others Beaujolais crus. Georges Descombes, Saint Amour, Beaujolais is one of the best examples, it is velvety and harmoniously balanced, followed by a well balanced acidity, soft tannins, with classic mineral expression. Georges Descombes, Saint Amour, Beaujolais is best served slightly chilled. This wine is great on its own, characeristics of Beaujolais easy drinking wines. Also this wine is very versatile when it comes to pairing food. This Saint-Amour would be a perfect much with Brie and Camembert, roasted poultry mild curries and Thai green.
